Candles... [August 15th, 2006]

[ mood | bouncy ]

Later this week I am going to be making a trip over to my two favorite stores: Cost Plus World Market and Pier 1. I had a quick question for anyone who has been there recently...

Last November I got a candle there that was coconut and biscotti scented. Does anyone know if they still make that scent?

Management Opportunity? [April 25th, 2006]

Hey everyone... hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

For a little over a year I've been working extremely hard at my job as an assistant manager for the Walgreen company. However, I'm tired of selling such impersonal items. I love the feel of Pier 1 stores and really would love to get into management with the company. I have superb customer service, multi-tasking, and merchandising skills. However, I'm finding it very difficult to even secure an interview for a management position.

Any ideas?

I'd really love to work for the company, and I'm willing to relocate anywhere... just not sure what action to take from here.

Madison, WI

Some of my new things. [December 15th, 2005]

[ mood | okay ]

I've been working at Pier 1 for about a month and half now in Florence, SC.
I honestly hadn't even been in Pier 1 before until I started working there and I realized then what I had been missing out on!

Since then I've become an addict and have bought sooo many things!

Here are some of my purchases...Collapse )

Not a whole lot, but like I said I'm just getting started! We've been in this house for a year now so we're still trying to decorate and get it all together and I can already tell Pier 1 is slowly but surely become one of my favorite stores for home decor!

Anyhow, just thought I'd share ;)

Bliss [November 23rd, 2005]

After a half hour of wandering about at Target, I gave up my search for the perfect reading lamp and headed off to Pier 1. Let me tell you right now: I have the best ex-husband in the world. Not only did he accompany me to the Brodie Lane Pier 1, he made the extra trip with me to the Airport Blvd location so that I could have the last red star holiday floor lamp in all of Austin. I also got a trio of star tea light holders (orange, blue and green).

I don't know why sipping hot tea in a candle-lit room blisses me out, but it does. I spent the better part of Saturday evening curled up on the couch, happy and content. If I was a cat, I would have been purring.

There is a matching chandelier to the holiday lamp. And that paisley chair I've been fantasizing about is still on sale. Sooooooo tempting...

[November 7th, 2005]

Hello everyone!

I'm a former Pier 1 associate in Kansas City. I had a friend who was a manager, and wanted something part-time, so hired I became.

I eventually went down to working one day a week, on Sundays at 6am, putting out stock so I could keep my discount.

You see, I had a problem. I was addicted! I couldn't help myself. I looked over every new item, and more often than not found a use for it in my apartment.

Here are some pictures from that apartment...Collapse )

Now that I'm not working there anymore, I stil find myself in the store A LOT. I bought a house in March, and have been slowing adding to the Pier 1 collection in my house. I am lucky enough to have a clearance store where I live, which I go to at least 2 times a week.

The good news is, my best friend is a RMIT, and whenever something new comes in that is really cool, she immediately calls me and I head down to the store closest to me to check it out.

I thought that after I quit, I wouldn't think about the store so much, but I've gone platinum on my card twice this year so I guess not.

I know World Market is the competition, but after Pier 1, I went to work there as a part-time assistant manager. And now, where I live the Pier 1 and World Market are literally right next to each other in a strip mall. I love WMarket too.

Anyway, I just wanted to share with you. Once I have a little more done on my house, I am going to take loads of pictures so if you don't mind, I'd like to post them here as well as a few other communities.

A few questions. [October 13th, 2005]

Hello everyone! I have a few questions regarding working at Pier 1 and was hoping someone would be able to answer some of my questions. I will be starting work with Pier 1 in a few weeks so I just wanted to get a better idea of what to expect.
1. What are the longest and shortest lengths of the shifts?
2. Do you have to meet a sales quota each week/month?
3. Does everyone work at cash, shipping, with customers, etc, or are a certain number of people only cashiers, a certain number only work on the floor (and so on)?
4. Do you receive a discount?
5. How do you like the overall working atmosphere at Pier 1?

Thanks to anyone who is able to answer my questions!
